On a side note, Erudites (while having rather bad starting stats) get the most badass paladin gear in classic.

In that case, make whatever you think looks the best. By late Velious, appearance is about the only factor of consequence when choosing a race for a Paladin due to the availability of good stat gear.

Human because no other race should be able to be a paladin.

dwarf = Defender of Dirt
elf/half elf = Ranger
erudite = Protector of Puddles

And that said - Mithaniel Marr only. That is the only actual description of a paladin. Otherwise, you are a:

Erollisi Marr: Pansy Paladin
Karana: Some idiot who worships the weather (please bring me fortune to water my plants!)
Nife: Cleric

45AC on a 2-hander in Velious with the same proc as the Fiery Defender is a pretty damn good reason to go elf... Forgot about this one.

oof i remember raiding PoG on my hum pally back in velious, they didnt want any of the pallies to touch anything because we'd destroy our own epic faction. =(

the irony is if you're a self-hating tunare worshipping elven paladin, you can forego the epic in favor of destroying your deity/hometowns faction and hope to acquire that precious gem.
