in the early days Gfay was a significant market on any server due to large number of newbies starting there (3 races of elves, dwarves, gnomes), thought secondary to EC in sheer number of sales and higher end items.
I used to do a fair share sales in Qeynos/Halas area during Velious era - selling to newbies-teens + some of potential higher end customers among people camping IGs. Being druid helped a lot when working as traveling salesman.

Gfay was the main trading hub on Tallon Zek. Was always fun when a bunch of evils ported into the wizard spires. But on a non-PvP server it doesn't make much sense. The only reason why GFay was the main trading hub was it was too much hassle for the evils to reach the bank where most people hung out.
