Default Project 1999 Specific Nerfs: Why?

As I understand it, there have been a series of (what I personally view to be) unnecessary nerfs to LOW LEVEL Shaman DoTs, including Sicken and other such spells. Nerfs that are only specific to the Project 1999 emulation, the likes of which have not taken place during the original EverQuest era to my knowledge. I would like to verify whether this is true, and if it is, would like to understand the reasoning behind it.

These spells have absolutely no impact on the game during higher end content in the slightest and really only serve as a necessity to the levelling process to those who are just starting out. If this is in fact true and that the nerfs only exist in Project 1999 (which I must remind you attempts to recreate the genuine EverQuest experience), I must then beg the following question... Why?

It appears I got my facts wrong. I apologise for the thread. Nothing to see here folks! Just the mindless ramblings of a dumb dumb.

Not sure if those nerfs are true or not but I'm going to offer some advice: group with twinks. I've found this to be a pretty easy way to go through levels since most twinks love a shaman duo.

So that the topic is 100% clear, can you describe what is happening compared to what should be happening with a source included to support what should be?

Typically in emulation, "what is" tends to stand until proven otherwise.

As someone who hasn't played a shaman here or on Live, I have no idea what powerleveling and twinking has to do with low level shaman DoTs.

The nerfs I'm specifically talking about are Sicken (which allegedly used to be only 12 mana, now costing 30) and Tainted Breath which was SIGNIFICANTLY reduced in damage potential.

Edited. Sorry about the tangential tirade about twinking and powerlevelling. What I meant to articulate was the fact that the only person that these nerfs affect are the people who are just starting out. If their current iterations are in fact not in line with EverQuest Ruins of Kunark's versions of these spells, there are absolutely no justifiable reasons for the changes to have taken place. It would only detract from the genuine EverQuest experience Project 1999 is after.

Sicken was changed from 30 mana to 12 mana on 5/9/2005

Thanks, that was helpful info. It appears, also from Lucy, that Tainted Breath was 8 damage per tick during this era:

2005-05-09 19:12 Changed Slot 3 from "Decrease Hitpoints by 8 per tick" to "Decrease Hitpoints by 14 (L8) to 19 (L18) per tick"

It changed back and forth from 14 to 8 a couple times for a few days, but this change was the first modification of the damage after the initial Lucy entry.

You ought to be a Mage a year ago with the Pet nerf. Quit crying and suck it up. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
