I think it's mainly a Hawaiian thing where it's NOT insulting, but it rings badly in my ears. And, hipsters seem to think it's still cool.

I used to work with a guy that would call everyone "Cuz" ... I guess like Cousin...
Drove half the shop nuttier than a snickers bar... They retaliated with calling him all sorts of nicknames like:Ace, Squirt, Sport, Co-cheese & the list goes on... was like watching those fire against fire moments... ahhh those crazy old memories of the past
