I think that became true later on, because SKs got better and monks didn't. Right now though we're in the era where monks are the best all around melee class (as far as duoing is concerned; I don't mean monks are the best raid tank or anything), and shaman are the best melee support class, so together they make a very powerful combination.

New player starting on server, going to be duo'ing with my brother who is rolling a sham. Would monk or war work better ? Any info appreciated, thanks.

Where is the "ONLY A MONK OR WARRIOR" clause?

Last thing any server needs is another monk.

With the final improvements of pet aggro, dont underestimate a shammy mage combo. They can get the job done well.

Yes, this is an awesome duo, as is Enchanter Shaman for charmed pet shenanigans.

imo monk/shm is better than sk/shm because sk dps is pretty bad.

Monks are better pullers* and you dont need the plate class for tankage, as there isnt much the shm cant slow; 90% of content you can duo is slowable(probly more than that).

necro/shm also works well as necros can be pullers too. + decent dps. Dot stacking works well. Long as you get a necro who doesnt wanan root/rot everything!

I suppose a sk does offer better fear kite options than a monk.....only a limited number of shmans can snare mobs via gear....

Maths wise, a monk will lvl faster than a sk.

I hear ya. My knowledge comes from eq in its current incarnation on the live servers. All this original content ive only been through with an 90 sk or a lvl 100 ranger and melted the zones for trinkets.

SK dps isn't actually half bad once they get the 44 necro pet. Lifetap procs/spells take on extra value vs mobs that are slowed, so that's a plus, but by that same token, so does mend.

For leveling up a monk is definitely better, but at 60 SK/Sham is quite killer.

Epic mage/sham is probably the strongest you're going to get vs a single target/kill speed. But you don't have amazing pulling.

Having levelled both War and Monk with a Shaman, I would choose Warrior (if decent equipment/weapons).

Come Velious though, Shaman and Monk in Kael will be a strong duo.
