New player character creation - Enchanter

I played an Enchanter when I first played EQ and I've been craving a similar style class ever since, but no MMOs I've played have even come close. That in addition to the lack of immersion modern MMOs have has led me here to Project 1999.

I'm definitely playing and Enchanter since I loved that class so much. My original Enchanter was a High Elf. I'm trying to decide if I should go High Elf again, or try something different and go maybe Dark Elf.
Do you have any recommendations?

Also, how should I spend my points?
I didn't know anything about points when I made my original Enchanter, so I'm fairly certain I had just thrown points into every stat as evenly as I could. I'd like to actually be smart about it this time.

play what you like but racial hide is nice for pet breaks... No matter what enchanters rock here and you will have a great time playing them if you know how

Thank you Eunomia, that answered my questions about stat allocation and I'll definitely be referring back to that guide frequently.

Now I just need to decide between High Elf and Dark Elf. The hide ability seems pretty good, but I'd never played an evil race prior to PoP. So I'm not sure how hard it is to be an evil race when there's no big neutral city like PoK.
