Yeah the Shaman has a ton of potential really, especially with what's to come, also nice to realize there will be plate armor for IKS WAR I think. Velious sounds nice to me.

Velious makes the Iksar warrior the most sought after warrior once plate drops. Stick to it brother Iksar. You want to solo, stay with your necro, you want groups, play the warrior.

If you are wanting a getting into the fight type soloing, you might want to try a Monk instead of a Warrior. Monks solo very well.

I think you just need to play a class you REALLY like and seem to be good at. Most every class on here takes sort of a different skill set. Being a Great puller, or a great Enchanter is sort of a gift not learned.

Pulling you have to have a fabulous memory of all the zones and the pathing of each and everyone of them to be great. And be great at breaking mobs. Not a easy task for many.

Enchanter is sort of like playing a chess game. You have to make pretty quick decisions and be a person that has a lot of concentration all the time.

Necro's are the most repetitive of the bunch. Which is a good thing. Makes them a lot easier to play than a Chanter. But most people don't utilize half the spells or tricks they have available to them. Other than SoW they get about every trick in the book.

Shamans are pretty straight forward. Just takes a lot of skill lower levels and without the epic to CC. But they cost a F'ing fortune to equip. And you are as busy as a Enchanted or worse playing either solo or grouped. They have TOO many spells lol.

A Mage is hands down about the easiest to solo but hard to CC. And they need no gear sort of like the Necro.

Melee's are mostly pretty easy. Just mash a few buttons and beat on things. I know there is a ton of Ranger hate on here but they are a fun class to play. They have a lot of tricks they get also. They are just squishy. Well, damn squishy.

Bards are cool but without Melody on here very few people are very good at twisting. So they are one song wonders in a lot of groups.

Druids are pretty great here on Kunark, but other than porting will not be so hot high end in Velious. takes to long to kill and their heals suck for how much damage the mobs will do.

Velious will really need to be the Holy Trinity to do well groups wise. A Warrior, Cleric, Enchanter. And a Rogue will not hurt for DPS. Nor a good puller with FD.

No doubt Velious will change a lot of peoples idea of a good class. Mobs resist a lot more, hit a LOT harder and the fights can seem to last forever.

So even classes that sound good or bad can even be better or worse with a different race. So their is a ton of ways to go in EQ which I think is one reason it has been a popular game for so long.

Welcome aboard. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] But don't forget no one knew crap about any classes before this game came out. We have all learned classes the hard way.

Running in circles around a giant group of monsters, staying just out of their hit range by staring at the bottom of the screen like you have OCD and continually looping and spamming a damage song? Yeah, that really sounds like "actually playing" a game.
yeah, that whole mass kiting thing never inspired me neither.
I played bard to 55 during LDON era - never soloed past lev 20. But groups always wanted me, cause I pulled, and Lulled, and mezzed, and Hasted and Slowed etc.
Now that was high pressure fun [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Now a RL friend of mine played bard too as one of his alts. He would get LDON group together, and made sure to get a dedicated mezzer and slower/haster, turn on Mana Song, and /followed on the cleric [You must be logged in to view images. The people who invented the first space ships were brilliant. That doesn't mean anybody should actually want to use them 200 years later. Ideas are limited by means of execution. Everquest has amazing ideas that need to be completely reworked in their execution, in order for classic Everquest as it was envisioned to actually exist and continue to be relevant as things have evolved.
