Default New Bard

I'm an old player from original EQ all the way until PoR, but haven't played since. I used to play a necro but started up a bard on P99 named Jurybel.

If you need a newb level 7 bard in mostly cloth and a rusty sword for your group let me know [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] So far the people on the server have been surprisingly friendly and helpful so I've been enjoying it.

If you get into the mid-teens before anyone hands you a set of banded or bronze I'd be very surprised. The community is very good at helping new players... good luck, and beware the carpal tunnel [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

What's it like playing a bard?

I'm finding myself experiencing the same problems I had back in 99 and 2000, where I'm playing three different toons, Cleric Monk and Necromancer, and having a great time with all of them. I was thinking about starting up a Paladin or Bard as well, but having a bit of trouble making the decision.

Where is your toon at in the world? I might be able to help a bit with gear.

It's pretty fun. I'm currently in EC, my main problem is I can't find a consistent stream of blue mobs to solo, and there's like 3 higher level bards at all times LFG here :P Maybe I should move locations. I really like bard though, I always play toons that are versatile (hence necro) and bard can be quite varied. I don't get why 'twisting 4 songs' is supposed to be hard, I just hit 4 buttons and it happens. I haven't tried much kiting though, will save that till 18 when I get the new dot. Should be fun.

What's a good partner to a bard? Are Paladins alright? If so, then join me in Faydwer.

Hmm I'm not sure what goes well with bard for duo. I'm in lfay right now messing around with orcs. Getting harder and harder to tank with my gear, but still surviving unless a yellow con pops. Then I try to kite, but for whatever reason EQ seems to stutter every so often making things difficult (I have a very high-end PC so nto sure what's going on). Still having a great time though and the amount of people who randomly offer free stuff is great. Got me a newbie weapon that's a little better than my rusty sword now [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Also ran into a couple of brownies, that was unpleasant

If you get the duxaui UI program here on the site, posted somewhere in the technical section, it might help you out with the stuttering. If you know how to force your game down to one core of your processor it might help also. This game is only designed for one core so if you go to your task manager and right click on the eqgame.exe and set the Processor Affinity to 0 or just uncheck any other cores except for the first one, it might run better.

I'm sure most melee classes would work pretty well with a bard. But if you really just want to tear through levels really insanely fast, any class that has an AOE DD spell. I partnered up with a bard on my druid and went from 17-18 in about 25 mins. Just let the bard get the mobs down the first 10% and start AOEing the heck out of em. Works wonderfully.
