That isn't the point. That's like saying we should convert all of those reward earrings back to the original items people turned in and let them re-farm Sky (or find someone to trade with) to get the correct piece. That wouldn't be fair to them, and that's basically what is happening to me.
The new piece that will be required has never dropped on the server because it wasn't in the loot tables, so the demand will be much higher than the old piece. So, now instead of just being able to complete the quest, I'll have the added cost of obtaining the new drop (through either an indeterminate amount of time on Sky raids or plat) plus the cost of going to Sky to turn in the quest.
