![]() Hey I'm new to P99 and really it'll be the first time I've played any classic EQ. I've spent probably the last day just absorbing information on all the classes and I still am not even close where to start and I could really use some help. I have a few questions and any help is appreciated.
I will be starting alone (other friends are dinks) and will mostly solo. What classes can solo without requiring a revolver beside the computer? Which of these good soloing classes are not overplayed and just ignored when I do try and look for groups? I originally wanted to make a Paladin but from everything I've read most melee classes played solo is a good way to burn yourself out.

![]() Solo classes are primarily: Necro, Druid, Enchanter, Mage, Wizard, and eventually Shaman (although they are tough at lower levels without good gear).
Of those, Enchanter and Shaman are the most desirable in groups, while Druid is the easiest to play/solo with.

![]() Hm.. that's too bad seems like range is the way to go. From what I've read Druid, Necro and Shaman are all played A LOT unless I'm mistaken but how about Mage? I imagine out of that group it's probably the one that appeals to me most although Druid ports sound super handy.

![]() Mages and shamans will always be needed here endgame for sure. Both are great first chars especially for farming. They also don't really rely on gear. Just be full mana and HP and you should be able to blast stuff down easy xp. I'd also suggest using east common lands tunnel buffs as much as possible 1-20+ to vastly speed up your xp gain. It'll also make up for the gear you'll be lacking.

![]() Appreciate the quick help I think I've made my mind up on Mage. Hope to get this going soon and meet some people in game.

![]() Just because they are played less doesn't mean they are wanted more. Like, there isn't some high demand for rangers or palys just because they are like 4% of the pop at best. You just play what you want to play, that's really how it goes. Every class takes commitment if you want to reach lvl cap. If you are not playing a class you enjoy, it just becomes a job and you will prolly not make it anywhere.
As for shammys, I never got into that class as end-game they are just mostly buff/debuff bots. Yeah they are wanted, but... well my fav two classes are priests, but shammy just isn't one of them.

![]() Great choice! Magicians are by far the best class in game in my slightly biased opinon.
You have your spells, behind the wizard in damages but still powerful. A pet who can tank, root, or even play wizard if it fits the occasion. You can summon your own pet toys, food and water, bandages, mana clickies, breathing clickies..the list goes on. It really is unfair to the other classes how awesome mage really are . Your a solo king, sure you can't kite reds in packs around the zones. But who wants to run away their whole eq career? You can flawlessly solo your way through the world and your a great asset in groups and duos as long as you pay attention to and control your pet. EQ path in is notorious for stupid flaws and between that and aggro your pet can keep you busy. If you have any questions feel free to shoot them in forum or in game! GL.
