IIRC, it had some limited uses, I just can't remember what exactly. What comes to mind is fire immunity + the fact that it casts some decent wizard nukes that also interrupt other casters...Although its been so long im not sure it's fire immune (although one would think so).

Lord Rak Ahiir in City of Mist could be killed with only a fire pet and a cleric because of its resistance
