When you installed the patch did you overwrite the existing UIFiles/Default folder with the new one or did you copy the files into it?
The folder in the patch zip contains only the files that need to be overwritten, and not a complete default UI. If you overwrote with the patch folder then EQ is crashing because you've (in essence) deleted most of the UI files and EQ can't load the default because it isn't there. If that's what you did you'll need to reinstall the game and then copy/paste the files into the folder rather than letting it overwrite the folder itself. If that's not what happened then ignore this and I don't know what's wrong :P
