I don't run that epic very often anymore, otherwise I'd help you out. One thing I can suggest, however, is that you "/who all kith" every once in awhile, particularly around prime time. If you see a bunch of high level people of the same guild, around 10 or more, you can be pretty positive that there's a general raid going on. Just send one of them a tell to verify and find out who is leading it. Ask that person if you could get the shield if it rots. Yay 100 hp shield.
This advice also applies to guildless rogues in need of a general kill. Guilds will often do a kill for you in exchange for another shot at Edge of the Nightwalker. Just make sure you see them kill one of their own first.
