i remember when trident of the seven seas was god mode and every caster's aspirational robe was an SMR.

and a mithril two-hander went for over 10k as it was considered an uber item.

Haha. On live, before hatestones were added as a high-end plat sink, most of the droppable loots from SolB & LGuk were being auctioned in gBay as "trade only" (this was Tunare server), nobody cared at all about platinum beyond a certain point. When it started costing guilds pp to get to hate all of a sudden you could buy an SSoY for 6k or an M2H for 10k.

The interesting thing about this is that the addition of a high-end plat sink gave casual players access to dropable "leet" gear. It doesn't take too many L40+ toons to overwhelm vanilla content, so the wait lists for desirable loot camps often stretched to 4+ hours, 8+ hours on weekends. "Poopsock" may not have been a word back then, no doubt those 13 year-olds just shat their pants instead, but the same damned behavior was practiced to an extreme at every static spawn that had desirable loot. Makes me wonder how many of the people packing their socks to the brim on p99 today got their start soiling their tighty whities on live in 1999 (hopefully they've bought new since then, or at least washed 'em a couple times.)

you guys are missing the point

a server restart is not awesome because you can get a shiny new item, what was the most fun about p99 back in 2009-2010 was that most of the population was in the low-mid level range, very social, modestly geared, and new to the content at the time

as opposed to what we have now which is a highly stratified population of 90% level 60s with 100s of soloing fungi twinked iksar monks in every zone
There is no server restart, the recycled server will not be trashed, it will be merged with the current, increasing the items on the current.

I agree 100%! That's is the number one reason a new server is so appealing.

No restart of the existing server, but the one that merges into it will restart. The. People can retain all their progress while experiencing a blmak slate whenever they like. It's an amazing proposal, like Neverending EverQuest or EverEverQuest, Ever^2Quest [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

100% Agree, very appealing idea, almost shit myself when they said it on stream...
