One of my favorite things about EQ is that you could look at someone with a high level and good gear and immediately have respect for what they've accomplished. XP potions and purchasable cosmetics undermine the work that goes into that and calls into question everyone's accomplishments.

I know what you mean but honestly that view really only exists as far as you embrace it. You can look around p99 and see people that worked for their character, or you can look around and see a bunch of PLed twinks that got everything through friends or even RMTing. The truth is that it's a mix of both, just like it always has been and just like Ragefire will be.
