That's is exactly what we who play on blue would like to modify.

It doesn't need to be a requirement, it is now because of the way variance is implemented, however there are ways to use variance with classic mechanics to solve the issue of poopsocking, while keeping the fun of the race in tact. These tools are already built into the game, but like the many other expansions, are not enabled on p99.

From the threads I've read and people who I've spoken with, the general feeling seems to be these ways have not been pursued either because of a lack of inspiration, or the ease of simply adding another variance to marginalize targets to deter most individuals from the experience which lightens the server load.

---

Although it may be hard to imagine, not everyone likes PvP EQ... What are you after by repeatedly insisting the folks that enjoy most other aspects of blue switch to red for an experience they are not looking for?

If she says she doesn't like anal, she doesn't like anal... although it may seem like a perfectly viable option from your perspective forcing it in is no way to change minds or make friends.

---

There are other ways to promote red pvp, if you would like, I'd gladly make a quality promotional video highlighting the fun elements of p99 red! I don't have a bard there, but I'll roll one up to level 34 to shoot it properly. Let me know if this would help the red cause.

Without variance, every zone turns into 300 person desyncs, see Vindi before he got 1 hour variance.

People on this server have proven they cant handle no variance sensibly - and until they do Rogean won't be removing it.

Maybe you missed this thread?
Vindi compromises thread.

Negotiations began shortly after players noticed the lag problem. They ended the moment a variance was added. Players were making an honest attempt to work out the problem without p99 intervention, which came after several guilds made an agreement.

It is not possible to work out a player run solution without an opportunity to do so. A sample size of a day or two of spawns, is hardly adequate enough to definitively declare that compromise is impossible, and a variance is warranted.

If you recall, Plane of Sky had an agreement that lasted (and was amended) by players successfully for quite some time -- without variances.

That should be proof enough that players can indeed handle the game without variances sensibly.

--

Still though, I'm not against variances. It's a mechanic that helps manage the fact that the p99 environment has way more level 60 high end geared mains and alts than classic EQ ever feasibly had at this point in it's evolution. Not to mention a massive knowledge base that allows for players to know precise information about there foes that was not popularly available in classic EQ either (exact spawn locations).

Like i said before, there are ways to use variance with classic mechanics to solve the issue of poopsocking, while keeping the fun of the race in tact. These tools are already built into the game, but like the many other expansions, are not enabled on p99.

Roegan, and the p99 staff need only decide if it is worth their time to try alternatives to solve the issue beyond applying a basic variance that solves server load problems while ruining the fun in the end game -- which effects anyone on the path to classic epic 60.

Swish imagine if most blue players did move to Red, do you really want to see a 1000 man Empire Zerg? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
