Please, please, for the love of all that is good, don't use a Painbringer. Yes, CC sucks at low levels, but the second an enchanter starts mezzing something (or people start root parking, or you're just a bit too close to another non-KOS mob, or a guard, etc etc etc) you are going to regret using this thing. Also, there is no way that Obsidian Shards are better aggro than Lariats. Stuns are still the best hate in game at this point. Don't skip them, even if you have a Shard or two -- in fact, I wouldn't even bother, and keep your Lariats until you get SSoYs. Yes, your DPS will suffer, but you will realize at some point that your DPS is largely irrelevant -- your aggro is all that matters when you're tanking.

When you aren't tanking, Axe of the Slayers all the way if you're soloing.

I'd only suggest a PB as a last ditch effort if you can't afford anything else, and get it at low levels. When you're level 10 and fighting Orcs in EC, who cares? The mobs all die in seconds. Not all groups have CC. When you're getting single pulls from a monk the entire time, you can do whatever the hell you want.

My experience has been that Obsidian Shards are better than Gnoll Hide Lariats. Whenever I use Lariats, my damage output is so low that it doesn't help my aggro at all. It takes so much longer to kill mobs, there's actually more chances to lose aggro or fail to maintain aggro because the mob is alive for so long. Been there and done that, I say Lariats are no good for anything other than pet weapons. Obsidian Shatter is a 30pt DD with an AC debuff. Debuffs make mobs really pissed off too, just ask a Shaman. Hell, I've been grouped before with my 2 shards vs a higher level Ogre Warrior with 2 lariats equipped. I had aggro 90% of the time. That says something. I'm not just blowing smoke.

Axe of the Slayers is actually a decent aggro generator too. It produces a passive AE aggro like a heal. I know... I heard people saying that on here and I thought it was bullshit, but then I tried it myself. I was actually seeing mobs snap to me when it procs. It won't compare to a SSoY, but it's much cheaper. Several warriors on here have said they used it to tank through 30 to mid 40s and had success with it.
