Verification email?

Hey guys, I'm trying to help a friend get set up and he hasn't gotten a verification email. I know it says up to six hours, I just wanted to ask what the average is? And are you logging in with P99 info or EQEmu? I'm not an set up savvy girl, someone else did mine. New player has read the setup guide.
