That was fun. Gave away a pile of items. Lots of people donated things. Shoutout to doabarrelroll who sent some very nice loot to be placed on mobs

Thanks go out to:
Kaffee
Enok
Knix
Expediency
Afeni
Yoldi
Nally
Woton
Frosti
Upskirts
Doabarrelroll
Sothaleize
Snapcaster
+ others

Volunteers and donators gave this event life! Kudos to everyone who found an easter egg. We started around the newbie areas but quickly had to spread out as things began dying too fast for us to charm (not to mention we had people following us around). I have a feeling some of that loot is going to linger for days until someone finds it.

Thumbs up Good Stuff

OOC was pretty busy during the entire event which lasted well over 4 hours. Huge thanks to everyone who put it together, donated items to be planted and all around made it a fun and exciting experience for all the low level players.

Here are two quotes I wanted to post that I noticed in the mix of all the /ooc Grats! on items and such.

Puts a big smile on my face to see events like the one held today getting people to say these kinds of things. I saw Gfay hit 62+ population multiple times throughout the event. A majority of which was low level players. Never before had I seen those woods so thinned out. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

It certainly was a Fun day. I want to again thank The <Department of Fun> for putting the event together and everyone who donated items and time to make it possible.

Messy recap for those not present -

I started out slowly by planting really weird things on some bats, which someone found and asked about:

Quote:
Masthana says out of character, 'why did a bat have 4 Hot Cross Buns?'
You say out of character, 'Oh...magic :)'
Masthana says out of character, 'and now clamcakes, cinnamon sticks, berries, and griffon eggs?!'
You say out of character, 'That's very mysterious'
I found two generous strangers willing to help out, along with guildmate Kaffee and fellow doffers like Expediency, Vilkata, and Afeni. We all worked very well together in our pursuit of fun, and dare I say it...I think they may have enjoyed themselves! (Also included was a guest appearance from doffer Snapcaster, but I fear there was a minor eruption of raid drama - guys, you are great, but please go /anon for DoF events if you know your guild tag will draw comments. I did not need that happening.)

The shouts that started the event:

Quote:
You shout, 'Brace yourself! The DoF Easter Egg Hunt is here! Some of you may have noticed a few odd items on the bats and wolves in the zone...surprisingly enough, that's not because they just got back from a vacation in Cobalt Scar'
You shout, 'Throughout the event you'll find any number of things on mobs. Be warned, the better the loot, the harder it will be to kill whatever's holding it.'
You shout, 'I reeeeally hope nothing gets killed by the guards and poofs'
Examples of prizes: Siryn Hair Hood, Frost Giant Steak, Blood of the Wolf, Banded armor of various sizes, Stave of Shielding, Mithril Fier`Dal weapons, Enchanted Elven Chain armor, Black Ice Sleeves, Runed Oak Bow, and so much more (like gems!). We had so many! And people kept showing up to give us things to give away!

Finding mobs was basically like this after everyone had cottoned on:

You begin tracking a bat.
a bat is to the right.
You have lost your target.

(No, I didn't cut anything out.)

And with all those players in one place united by the same task, sometimes things are said:

Quote:
Trigunfun says out of character, 'i found god'
Trigunfun says out of character, 'and you can find him too, lets have a talk'
Quote:
Glerther says out of character, 'is it just the newbie areas? or the whole zone?'
You say out of character, 'Whole zone'
You say out of character, 'run far, little noobs'
Froljin says out of character, '=('
Froljin says out of character, 'far is dangerous, close is safe'
You say out of character, 'Aren't you a ranja? YOLO'
Singinglilly says out of character, 'hahaha'
After we got our enchanter rolling, someone realized the orcs on orc hill were being charmed, so I had to announce it:

Quote:
You shout, 'WHO IS BUFFING THE ORCS ON ORC HILL AND GIVING THEM THINGS oh wait it's us'
Serious strategizing on how to keep our easter eggs hidden from the noobs while planting items:

Quote:
You tell your party, 'Charm something and distract the newbies so Doa can start getting everything else'

Expediency tells the group, 'also you can make them guard a place, run away while newbs chase you, then turn animal away'
There was a lot of struggle finding mobs after everyone was going crazy. A lot of people weren't finding things in the newbie areas, mostly because we couldn't charm fast enough in those areas. We had to go out to the middle of nowhere, find a mob, charm, and if there was a newb in the area (they started showing up everywhere by the end), we had to sow the mob and try to lose them using our speedy wolf form. We began developing some pretty strange tactics. I had a tendency to park mobs inside tree trunks where they couldn't be seen and run for it when being followed. Other times we had to team up and distract people with different charmed pets. It was an easter egg arms race!

Love letters from people present at the event --

Quote:
'This is awesome of you guys :) I have a few high levels and just made this alt, so I'm not going to try to get anything but this is so cool of you guys :D'
Quote:
'I think it is a blast and I didn't find anything. It was just absolutely hilarious running around like nuts'
Quote:
'thanks for the wonderfull easter egg hunt expiriance guys i really apriciate it :)'
Quote:
'yes it was fun, got an item and someone gave me a FS sword!'
Quote:
'thank you guys so much for what you are doing :)'
Quote:
'Thank you guys so much for this easter egg hunt! n.n'
Quote:
'Thank you for this!'
Quote:
'whoever thought of the mob easter egg hunt is a genius. So much fun and thanks'
Quote:
'I love what you guys are doing. I'd love to contribute to future events.'
^^^ Noted!

Quote:
'so EQ was fun before but this is amazingly good fun.'
Quote:
'hahaha ive been lost for olmost lost for 15 mins but aye im enjoying this allot!!'
Quote:
'This is AWESOME!'
Quote:
'wonderful folks have charmed low level mobs and loaded them with goodies. find the mob and get a magic item!'
Quote:
'Cool event, thanks'
Quote:
'thank for putting on this event. i'm glad stuff like this happens on p99'
Not everyone got something (the DoF does not subscribe to the idea of everyone being a winner), but seeing newbies exploring the zone beyond that tiny area around Kelethin, the front of Felwithe, and orc hill sure was awesome. Everyone was lost at some point, even us. It's okay, though. Getting lost in EQ can be pretty darn fun!
