Default Opinions needed.

Hey folks =)

I've been on P99 going on like a year and a half. I've gotten a mage to 57 and like the class for its farming ability but not much else.

I made a rogue at some point and got him to 22 and the stopped playing him, determined to only play classes I never did on live back in the 99' era. I made a ranger and have been playing him for a pretty good while, getting much of his 52 levels before the hybrid exp penalty patch went away. My playtime availability is tapering off more and more lately so I've not had a ton of time to sit LFG on him so I've started debating dropping the ranger altogether and picking the rogue back up, who is now lvl 28. The rogue gets groups far quicker and I feel like I'm contributing more to a group. I really enjoy the ranger but at 52 his role as a "maybe tank" is falling to the wayside and his dps doesn't feel like it's making up for it.

I guess my question is with no AA'a to improve the class and bring archery into the scene, is the ranger as a class a dead end on p99? It's enjoyable but the higher levels seem really flooded with rangers and dedicated dps classes seem more scarce and I've seen groups actually flounder because of it.

My ranger is pretty well geared with Tolans bracer, helm arms, Tigerraptor stuff, Woodsman's Frostbringer, Club of the Ice Ocean, Fungi etc....I'm just wondering with my limited playtime if selling his ranger specific stuff and transferring over stuff that is rogue friendly and working the rogue up knowing he'll be able to group constantly rather than situationally.

What do ya all think? I love both classes....I love the utility of the ranger, but at the same time those crunchy backstabs are so glorious lol.

For a third opinion, you could do what I did. I played rogue to 60 while soloing on my druid when I got sick of LFG. After I got them both 60, I worked on the ranger I always wanted... and got her 60. So.. we both have a solo class, a group dependent class, and a solo/group hybrid. A great mix of play styles. Pick one to get to 60 because higher level = better cash opportunities for your other characters. Main it and join a raiding guild, if you want, and work on the alts as you have time. Get em all 60 eventually imo. All excellent characters.

Something you wanna consider is what you'll be doing at 60. If you're raiding, mage and rogue will be the best characters for it. Rogues are fun when you're raiding. Kinda sucks at 60 for anything else. Mages are fun when you're not raiding, as their raid role kinda sucks to perform. It's important though. Rangers.. I'm not sure if raiding guilds utilize weapon shield at all but beyond that and an easy ATK buffer role, not amazing dps. Fun to play solo.

Between my characters, since I retired from raiding, I rarely play my rogue at all. I play my druid and ranger all the time just messing around solo.

Indeed, kind of what I've been doing the last couple of months. Trying to get the mage to 60 to have a solid farmer/raider and then messing around with the other two.

Just extremely broke platwise and it seems inflation has absolutely exploded since velious came out. Kind of robbing Peter to pay Paul at this point lol.
