Miscellaneous: Can't brew short beer.

I am playing an Iksar necromancer who decided to raise my brewing some in order to make the Legion Lager needed for the restraining order quest. I'm following the progression recommended on the brewing page in the wiki. I've already reached 21 with the bog juice and was about to start on the short beer which refuses to combine, giving me the message: "You cannot combine these items in this container type!"

I am using the brewing barrel next to the bank in East Cabilis. The ingredients I am attempting to use are a cask, barley, hops and malt (one of each) as per the recipe found on the wiki and on zam and eqtraders which lists the same. All of the ingredients were purchased from the vendors at the same location.

I don't know if this is an issue with the recipe, with the server, with that particular brew barrel, or with one or more of the ingredients.
