Wizards need Luclin for spell critical strikes.
As someone who plays a wizard I agree that pure casters are somewhat left behind at Velious in terms of advancement. But considering how ahead pure casters were during true classic and Kunark it is hard to say where the true balance lies. I know on my wizard I can kite four blues at a time, more mana pool is available with more proliferated gear and the way the market has bottomed out on a lot of good items, meaning it is easier to get decent gear that will let you advance and contend for high end stuff sooner. It would be nice to have some of the flowing thought options that PoP and Luclin offers. I'm not sure if we can still call the server classic if I can level 1-30 in the Paludal Caverns in one afternoon.

These were the last two expansions that I played, but they were the first major steps away from classic. Graveyards for corpses. Nexus for travel. Marketplace for trading. Newbie quests offering some really good armor that looking back seems about as good as the early planar stuff and better than most other old world loot that is much harder to get.

If p99 released those expansions it would not be classic anymore, even if one of my favorite classes would be more balanced.

i also think PoP would be a better end than SoV. luclin and PoP added many great zones and raid targets. i liked AAexp: gave you some reward for playing your char past max level, mostly without being required.

but those things could be left out. though i don't agree that nexus made a real difference. even with PoP you still always preferred a port.

for me the end of classic EQ was instanced grind zones (like LDON).

LoY isn't classic. It makes sense to stop at Velious because that was the last expansion led by the Brad McQuaid team, Verant, etc.

Planes of Power isn't classic.
P99 isn't classic. It's time for some of these outdated and inaccurate beliefs to stop being perpetuated.

What if they released luclin but tossed in a negative xp modifer for Caverns or make it a level restricted zone. Custom content can do interesting things.

Enc can charm statue in PoP expantion.

You're not asking to release up too PoP expansion.

You're asking to not play velious expansion anymore.

Never going to happen: not Luclin, not PoP, and not LoY.

But that being said, if the P99 team was replaced with pod people who would add only a single expansion, I actually think LoY would make a lot of sense.

LoY is barely an expansion as far as content is concerned.
Not true at all: it had six fairly large and content-filled zones. It's just that the content they released in LoY was (mostly) far below the level of the average player at the time. This is why most people at the time thought the way you do: they had no reason to go see that content, so they assumed it didn't matter. But, that's also why the expansion would be kind of perfect for P99: it would add new zones that are appropriate for levels 1-60, but wouldn't require the introduction of AAs or any other post-Velious changes.

(Well, except for the one "high-end" zone, Hate's Fury, but even though it's designed for up to 75 I bet P99ers could raid it successfully.)

Personally I think LoY is the most "classic" non-P99 expansion: it was (mostly) for the classic level range and it didn't add planes or moons, just new places to explore on Antonica. It also didn't add crazy new alien mobs or anything like that, just pirate versions of normal (classic) races. Heck even Froglocks are classic ... albeit not as players.

The only benefit for me with Luclin was that my wife wanted to play when they come out with the Kitty Beastlords.

To me this was the only benefit.

There will never be any AA's first of all. There are talks of custom PoP or some other custom like ssra temple but that will be determined after all the patches are done for velious. That being said if you really want to play frogs just play on PeQ for a minute.
I missed the thread where they talked about PoP custom zones. If true, im a very happy p99er.

I would only like to see the addition of AAs someday (wont happen) Just because if blue never , ever, ever, wipes, there will be a continuation of the grind.

I agree LoY was a 'classic feel' expansion.
