Voice chat sucks. You can miss an important voice message even if you AFK for literally 5 seconds because GF / wife (doesn't apply to red I know) / dog / door / sandwich needed your attention.

With /guildchat you can afk during the downtime etc and never miss anything.

We had voice chat in Wudan way before GoD. Pretty sure it was vent. No clue y Assar would make up alternate elf history.

3) it wasnt used to coordinate raids until Zek merge forced it through Hateguild and even then it wasn't mandatory
