Yes, you pretty much have to look on allah or have a guide or have a friend to know which quest is worth doing and it's also needed to finish certain portions that're not well explained in the game. You can sometimes find good quests on your own by talking to non-players. It's not impossible. But if there is one thing I would improve in EQ it would be how quests are delivered and how players solve them. I don't like all of the hand-holding in modern games, but some extra information would be appropriate if it's in context and not too obtrusive. I should not have to look on allah or have a walkthrough (even) or walk from one side of norrath to the other in order to find leads and information. There should be more clues and effort put into making quests more meaty and loved. Nonetheless, some fun can be had doing the quests. Just don't get mad when you're told to recover an item in the sewers and you have no idea where to find the bad guy that has it. He could be a rare named that pops on a rat spawn, so you'd need to kill all the rats in the zone. He could be in a hole at the bottom of the zone next to a high level that you need the right faction to pass by. He could be invisible. All of this might sound interesting, but try camping all the rats in a zone to get a named to spawn. It's not very inspiring. If you go into this using allah it won't be as painful, but it's boring knowing the answers.
