Those two are somewhat conflicting for non-twink chars.

The way I look at EQ is that if I didn't already have a level 60, and was starting fresh with my limited play time. I'd roll a druid or necro hands down - probably the druid more than necro.

Why druid?

- You can solo to 60, so you never have to waste your limited play time lfg.
- Once you get ports, you can make some easy money porting people whenever you have free time.

Some key points to a necromancer (especially at the early levels):

* Make sure to summon the right level pet. If you are level 10, Bone Walk can summon a level 7-9 pet. To see if you have the right one, check how much damage it is doing. If you find you have the level 7 or 8, just use Reclaim Energy until you get the highest level. https://wiki.project1999.com/Bone_Walk

* Use Mend Bones to keep your pet up. You should be able to kill yellow mobs if you have your level 9 pet out. Toss it some weapons too.

* Just let your pet take 50% exp until you hit level 12 and get new spells. You can really do this the whole time until you feel comfortable with your spells.

Doing this should get you to level 16 without a problem. Hopefully by then you will start to see how the necro spells work and how to use your pet more of a DoT and get all the EXP to yourself.

Necro:
Durable sturdy not squishy
Is spamming life taps considered durable enough for you?

Doesn’t die super fast or easy from dark blues
Pet can tank and and probably solo some dark blues. You can just fear + snare with DOTS with the pet smacking them which makes things easy and more efficient.

Doesn’t have to pull
check, but can help the puller split with FD

Doesn’t have to heal
check, but you can help heal if you want.

Can solo at least to a point grouping is possible or when no one is around at odd hours
One of the best solo classes in the game especially if Iksar with your self only clarity buffs that stacks with clarity.

Is desired in groups
DOTs aren't really that great with how fast leveling groups typically kill mobs but your pet is decent dps.
Against undead though, those undead only nukes are awesome.

Has possible spell or ability for oh crap moments
Harmshield and Feign death are pretty amazing.
To a lesser extent, snare, root, fear, gate, mez, using pet as a speedbump while you run for zone.

Works well with others duo or group situations
Has a ghetto mez, undead lulls, heals, mana transfer, best levitate spell in game with amazing poison resist.

Possibly has a heal for self or others
Lifetaps and heal DOTs for self. Can even heal with the life transfer spells which can keep a group going for a bit until a healer arrives or supplemental heals if they can't keep up.

Doesn’t kite
Reverse kiting with snare + fear ok? Very efficient for leveling if done right.

Is dps as that’s what I enjoy most
Pretty decent DPS especially against undead.

Sounds like a Necromancer might be right for you

Melee dps - Does their pets and charm pets count?

Durability - While most ppl think caster's as "Squishy" , Necro has Snare , Root (later levels), Fear, and Lifetaps - Their amount of control paired with health restore makes them pretty durable (for a caster). No they cant face tank mobs but they don't have to worry about 1 or 2 random hits they may take either

Doesn't have to Heal pull or Kite - You won't find all these combinations while also falling under your other criteria. Necro "CAN" heal but they are never a main group healer, they may have to do some kiting in order to solo but its mostly fear kiting

Is DPS or can DPS - Not really a dps in a raid scene, but in a group you are mostly there to add DPS (pet + dots / lifetaps)

Has both group desirability and solo capability - While some ppl may shy away from necro in groups I think they do just fine. Personally I think you don't see more necro's in groups simply because a lot of people who roll a necro gravitate towards soloing and there's nothing wrong with that

Has possible Self healing to stay alive - yup Necro has that

Has possible skill spell ability for those emergency moments when things go bad - Yup pretty much the best one in the game Feign death =p and hey they have gate too!

Your new and don't have a lot of plat - That's ok Necro is a very self reliant class and doesn't even really need gear they can level 1-60 with really really really bad gear, the only downside of this is endgame gear doesn't make as big a difference for them as it does for melee classes

------

This is my suggestion to you regarding your set criteria... the only other option that hit all your topics imo especially the "melee dps one" is Monk however if you roll a monk people WILL as you to pull in groups, you may not have to all the time but I 100% guarantee people will ask you to, and will not really want a "lazy monk" who doesn't want to pull sometimes

However I didn't select this class because Monk's cannot solo very well without gear, which you wont really have starting out. Yes they ARE the best melee solo class, however they are miles behind what a caster such as necro can do in terms of soloing 1-60

Bard fits the bill if you don't kite with it. Bard's don't really need to kite, i didn't on my bard.
