It can be pretty satisfying to make your own stuff, especially if this is your first character on the server. That being said, it's highly likely if you grab the components that someone will combine it for you or outright give you a set.

I know when I was just starting out I was gifted many low level items, that in return I passed along when I was done with them. Most people are friendly and helpful to newer players.

Making banded is fun and well worth the effort IMO. It's like a right of passage for a melee.
