They should be thankful.. Every mage should read this:

TL;DR - It's more beneficial for a mage to pop out mod rods, instead of nuking, even if it's clerics that are nuking.

Interesting read. I feel like I remember reading that way back when.

Funny thing is, they did nerf mod rods. There was a cooldown on the effect so you could only use them so often, and maybe something else. Mages still had to summon them, but the days of burning through a dozen rods per fight per cleric were over.

What's even funnier, is that Mages were essentially reduced to a second rate raid class. Second rate damage, with limited utility (Rods, COH). Having 2-3 on a raid was plenty, even on a 72 man planes raid. Less when they reduced the raid size for GoD.

Classic "be careful what you wish for."
