![]() In your position, I'd recommend Necro or Druid.
Charming doesn't require a ring. I just recently learned how to charm kite on my druid like two days ago and I'm doing just fine without a ring. The ring only makes things more convenient. At best it allows you to break charm when the mobs are at extremely low health. Which granted, is awesome, but not required. You need a class that doesn't need a lot of gear, has a large diverse toolkit, group-friendly, and can solo? That's Necro or Druid.

![]() Not going to compare them vs. each other as every class is unique and has its up's and down's so just going to give you my opinion of each class that sorta fits your criteria...
Necromancer - Great solo class, with very little to no gear need and has a lot of variance in how it can approach situations and a very small learning curve. Is not a "Top Tier" solo class like ENC / SHM , however Necromancer is right on their heels and is really the only class that can hold a candle to Enc / SHM in terms of solo capability late game Enchanter - Top tier solo class, needs very little gear just some cheap CHA gear (and a lot of peridot's at endgame) However has the largest learning curve of all classes in teh game with the only exception being Bard. The difference between a well played enchanter and someone who doesn't know what they are doing is enormous Shaman - Top tier solo class, however is the most gear dependent and expensive of the "Solo Artist's". Of the solo classes they are the only "True Healer" and at 60 can Main heal most group content themselves. Not much of a learning curve however Shaman gameplay gets horrendously repetative especially at 60 with Torpor....have fun spamming canni and torpor all day long... Despite being the Velious "Solo God" Shamans have really humble beginnings as a solo class they are a very very late bloomer (60 torpor) Druid - Good Solo class with a lot of utility, very little gear needs, and can make money easily with ports even at low levels. Can heal for low tomid level content but their healing power really falls short late game. Great for people that like to solo , travel norrath and be a friendly person (power level ppl , port ppl) while still having pretty decent solo power

I'm looking for the right class to play too. I haven't played this game in ~17 years. I remember nothing. I can only play sporadically for 30-90 min at a time, so it would need to be mostly solo as well. I was thinking probably lizard necro, but I just don't remember all the classes and races.

![]() If you liked the DE shadowknight enough to reach 22, I'd recommend either continuing with that character or re rolling to a Troll shadowknight for the slam, MUCH better physical stats and Regeneration. It's really, really strong. While you don't get Invis until later on, you can pick up a nerfed Circlet of Shadows for invis very cheap to have access to Gather Shadows 10 levels before you get it off your spell list.
If you insist on going Shaman instead, which has their own hard time of solo fighting until 24 (gets slightly better) and then 34 (feels like an actual full class then), I would again advise going with the Troll. Slam, Regen, and Innoruuk worshipers access the snare necklace was is marginally useful for leveling up to 24. They also can use the Jaundiced Bone Bracer (moderately to very useful item Iksar miss out on) AND they gain repeatable access to a 1 shot Halfling Illusion mask from the Innoruuk neck quest so they can cheat some faction for certain quest turn ins.

![]() Play them all. You'll know in 5 levels if you like the class. Don't worry about gear or plat. I can give you a leveling path and gear template that can be attained by level 20 and hold you over to 50+, but following templates is kinda boring.

![]() I feel like SK seemed to be pretty 'meh' until I hit 30. As far as soloing, you're probably making the right choice to swap. SK can solo decently if you have room to fear kite. I did several levels solo in the upper 30s fear kiting at SF ramp in Overthere.
I haven't played shaman, so can't comment on that. Druid was my main for a long time and it's flexible and easy to level once you hit 20ish. Been working on a necro recently and it's a super budget twink. Spent maybe 600p on it and it feels like the easiest leveling of any character I played (beginning from level 16. 1-15 suck as is usual for most classes.

![]() I recommend Necro since you say you like to solo while doing other things. With Necro you can solo, and if you need to afk, you can just find a safe spot to FD. I say safe because if you get hit by an AoE that goes off near you I think it will break your FD status.
Enchanter is really good for making money and is basically a god of soloing, imo, shaman might be better but I think in dungeons, Enchanter has a better toolkit, only thing is you're kind of one man show and you will make a lot of mistakes. The thing is though you can't really solo while doing other things, I mean, if you learn a camp well and have a rotation down you can probably pull it off but Necro sounds better if that is what you want to do. I afk on my Enchanter but there is always that chance some douche bag will unintentionally train me or at my camp spot, it pretty much almost never happens but it is a risk I take. I don't think Necro is a big money maker anymore. Seafuries used to give lots of plat but that isn't a thing anymore since they nerfed seafury loots. You can still camp jboots. Maybe do a small group to try and farm stuff. You can make ok plat while leveling I think. If you're up for it there are the gargoyles in OOT, they drop the gargoyle eyes. Then there is the treant camp in SK. Then killing guards in misty thicket or other places (I haven't played necro for a few years so I don't know all the spots).

The one thing that's burnt in my memory watching SKs solo is seeing them at it at 59. Necro is slow enough, each combat for a SK has to be beyond 2-3 minutes... the OT hammer hand in guy is one such target. Rumor has it the ogre SK I saw doing him a couple of years back is still out there swinging.
