Hell no!
Indeed, this would ruin EC.

I vote no.
Reason: Let us not give the trolls a place to GROAN to everyone cause someone stole there mob BLA BLA BLA took there camp BLA BLA BLA.. Please let them deal with it without the rest of us having to read the BS. I know, I know, turn it off if I don't like it.. IMO go to another EMU if you don't like p99's classic feel.. Nuff said.

But I like the idea someone posted before about making them to only work in the same zone. It would be good for raids I guess.

Early? I don't remember the chat channels being implemented until Luclin...

Yeah, wouldn't this kill EC? for the most part. Which would be lame.

Any form of server wide channel without a reasonably low cap on the number of people allowed in the channel would kill EC, and if that is the case you might as well just add the bazaar and some moon cats in too and just continue ruining the classic immersion completely. That is what the death of EC does to EQ. We need a central place to go to, and that is as classic as it gets.
I support only adding stuff in the order of the original timeline of EQ. Any variance to that is not in what I understand to be the DEV's vision for this server. I vote a big NO.

This would kill the game. You might as well put in instanced zones and pok books, as well as a market place.

Seems like a lot of 'no' posts but the yes votes are winning.
I would support chat channels if they only worked on Kerra Isle.
