It possibly is still an issue. I had a failed brother B once, who is spawned. I returned 2 hours later to spawn him again and turned in 1 monk pipe and still got the reward.
That's right, mobs do remember items even when they despawn or get killed and respawn. For better or worse, classic or not, that's the way it currently works on P99.
