I also noticed more people took offense to what they found on the internet, as if it sanitize it to make it safe for the new people coming in the door. To protect business interests which have aligned themselves against the culture of the Internet.

Netflix is also to blame. Not so much when they did mail order DVDs but later.

Youtube as well. Not for the user content but for rehosting content they shouldn't and big corporate taking issue with that. Then imposing more rules here. Not that big a worry when the user base is small, or at least smaller than now.. but hey! we are getting everyone online with the help of smart phone plans.
