That's cool.

Why is covid different than the flu in terms of how we respond to it as a society? Why don't we wear masks, social distance, and shut down "non-essential" businesses to stop the spread of those diseases? They kill grandma too, and also kill the young *more* often than covid does.

Please re-capitulate it for me here incase I missed the answer at some point in the last several months where we've been kicking this ball back and forth.

Can you admit that perhaps some of the measures taken have been too drastic? Or would you argue that we *should* do these things for a bad influenza season?

(not addressed to you specifically kitten, but anyone)

are you saying we're hypocrites if we don't treat the flu the same?

I don't think the flu kills youngs more often than COVID. Can you demonstrate that?

No I'm attempting to tease out the justification for treating covid this way but not the flu (read: there isn't one). I am not suggesting it's hypocritical, because I do not think either disease should be treated this way.

If covid had a mortality rate of 5% or even 1% accross all age groups, yes I would agree such measures as have been taken against covid would be justified. I'm simply arguing that many of the strictest lockdown measures are doing more harm than good, and the only counter argument I ever seem to get is "400k (or whatever number) dead!!" full stop. Like, that's it, they never say anything more specific than that. Just... number dead. Do we know they all died because of covid? Well, no. Do you have anything to say about the overwhelmingly high survivial rate? Well no. Do you have anything to say about the huge uptick in collateral impacts, both economic and socio-political, brought about by lockdowns? Well, no. 400k though!

my boss flooded my streets to shame me about hurricanes. I thought covid was my boss doing something again, or a fake world doing something again so I didn't care. Still in a fake world, its now about me me me, not "Us us we we and us we us"

oh by the way sense I had to buy supplies during the fake street flooding, I wasted money on soup, and then I thought I got chemical in my microwave, and I probably coincidentally died inside at that point because then I couldn't use my microwave, because I thought the secret society would make me randomly feel high for things. Which lead to me boiling oatmeal every night before work which was a waste of 45 minutes every night before work.

Cigarettes kill 480k people a year in the US. The strictest measures we take against smoking is requiring smokers to go outside, sometimes, in some places. As if that stops people from smoking. As if that stops other people from inhaling second hand smoke. As if that stops parents from smoking in their cars. Where is the draconian governmental overreach to stop these deaths? Is there some kind of relationship between risk and freedom that we enjoy in our society?? Buhwuhhhhhh???

Your argument cannot possibly be "we are trying to save lives" with regard to covid, unless you also advocate for such measures against every other preventable form of death. If you can't concede that, then you don't really care about lives, you care about political purity tests and appearing woke with regard to this relatively unharmful disease.
