Good write up. Can confirm this is exactly how it works. My experience was it was a regular skeleton and not a decaying skeleton with bronze weapon/ringmail but only a minor difference. I got my info from another player who was there a lot (maybe another alt of yours, not sure), glad I got mine before someone made the knowledge widely known.
