From the outside, it would be nice to grant citizenship for those that worked for the US, UK, etc in Afghanistan. Both as a thank you, but also as without the military backing them these guys will be exposed to ‘retribution’.
I think there was a political reason to leave them behind - that they have spent the last 20 years ‘levelling up’ Afghanistan, so ‘if they did their job right’ they would be safe. Furthermore there is a lot of push against ‘brown’ immigration, at least in the UK.
I think there was also a security reason to leave them behind - translators etc could easily turn into double agents / recruitment / sleeper cells for the tally if they were attempted to be assimilated into the Anglosphere nations which were in Afghanistan.
