I remember for whatever reason not being able to get a physical copy of SoL when it was released, probably because I was a broke kid.

Does anyone remember if Luclin was the first expansion they offered digital download for? I remember having to bootleg the files from my friend’s Dad, I don’t recall where I got an activation key from though.

My 32 MB of RAM were BARELY capable of loading the game. I remember between that and the server lag on launch it took me forever to load. The only time I lagged before SoL was on the rare occasions I did ToV raids.

SoL and PoP were great expansions but I feel the decline of EQ started with SoL and by the time PoP was released WoW was coming out and we all know what happened then.

Ykesha was download only, Luclin and PoP both had box art by Keith Parkinson before he moved on to Vigil to help make Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (bad name like Pantheon).

The decline of EQ could be felt by the end of Velious as Dark Age of Camelot (Mythic also made Magestorm ) was about to release. After DAOC you had Star Wars Galaxies and Shadowbane, then WoW would come along and stagnate the genre for at least 15 years - hard style. By the time MMORPG players woke up from their Blizzard induced hibernation the demographics had changed over to a console dominant-computer hybrid that praised thumbsticks.

Probably because AC came out in 1999 and was a direct competitor of EQ. He's talking about a post Velious timeline

MS didn't miss WoW though. Hmm, console MMORPGs.
