I think instead of a gieger counter you are gunna want some serious breathing filtration systems so you can keep irradiated particles from inside your lungs, am I right?

The people who survive will be the ones who can breed within a 20 year lifespan. It will take 100,000 years to sort that out. No amount of filtration will make that a fun time. And I totally believe this has happened before.
