Lol. I mean, most reasonable people probably understand that the devs aren't *obligated* to communicate and could literally do anything they wanted with the project. That doesn't change the fact that most people who've dedicated a lot of time and effort would very much appreciate some kind of heads-up after years of radio silence. I don't really think it's unreasonable to ask for (not demand) an update.

If they're burnt out and want to shut the servers down forever / leave them as-is until almost everyone stops playing, that's fine. If there's something else going on and a merge / refresh is still in the cards, that'd be nice to know, too. It's just a bummer when you peek in every ~6 months only to discover that there haven't been any updates whatsoever.

It's hard to watch something you've gotten so much enjoyment out of over the years just slowly wither.

I've seen this same slow-roll schematic towards death on every dead MMO I've ever played. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

you guys ever hear of a game called ragnarok? how about trickster? no? how about swtor or monster hunter? There have been countless MMO's that have come and countless that have gone. Feebleness and inactivity is what leads to contempt and destruction.
Personally some of my favorites were things like grand chase and dragon nest, where the content was active and engaged while in it's prime.

Green was a noble concept initially, but it was a bridge to nowhere. Now that the bridge has come to it's final resting spot, the empty abyss is all that remains.

There's a saying, The Journey is the Prize.
Those that simply want to "be the best and get to the end before everyone else" now have nothing but the abyss to stare into.

There are 2 "next steps" that will come for destruction. The dumbing down of the spoken word and the foreign invasion with invasive tongues.
When an MMO dies, the first truly BIG sign is the takedown of the english language.
There are only small signs before that, in game inflation, lack of parties, and a top-heavy playerbase, for examples.

All MMO's fated for destruction follow the same path. Whether young or old.
Only Creation can stop Destruction.

You mean this will happen on green?

100% This. This server(Green) is a relic now. It was fun. It's been a relic for year(s) now. How anyone other then a super casual 1-2hr/day or weekend warrior plays Blue competitively now is just mental illness and Green is knocking on the same door.

Time to call it quits @Staff or at least comment on why there is no comment? Maybe? Id love a new server, but life goes on either way. I guess 90+% of most humans daily routine is habitual and hopefully that accounts for the majority of the population playing and doing the same motions week after week in perpetuity with no desire and sometimes disdain at having to deviate at all. LOL

P99 was fun and I hold a great memories from the timeline! Akin to my original introduction to Everquest during Phase 4 Beta in 1998 at 13 years old. At 39 years old today, I can tell ya, these servers all 3 are for the Weekend warrior/1-2hr here or there checking in on old memories of your journey.

No comment at all on the subject makes me think Staff enjoys watching mental illness and maybe even herding the cats also pleases them? How any GM could legitimately think Helming these decrepit servers is worth their volunteer time is beyond me. No Cap. lol

That's what weirds me out. Project 1999 seemed to be a passion project that its leaders really cared about, so the silence we've been getting is strange and disappointing. I can understand taking a backseat for a few months due to burnout or personal / professional obligations and such, but Green is well over 4 and 1/2 years old at this point and people have been speculating about the future of the project for a very long time.

Part of me still hopes there's going to be a surprise announcement and a new server launch soon once the current round of TLPs start to wrap up, but meh

So just roll a new char on blue and act like its a fresh start

You aren't gonna find your childhood happiness regardless of how many new servers p99 cranks out

I find it funny that there's an ongoing theme of this sentiment and I have to say, I don't understand it. It's dismissive, a touch mean-spirited, and frankly it completely misses the mark. I don't think anyone on this thread has said that they're somehow unhappy, or that it is even about nostalgia. The fact is the gameplay changes dramatically on a new server and after the planes and raids have all been completed 100+ times, the market is saturated, and the lower level zones are empty, there is no just "rolling a new character." Grouping at low level is scarce and you are forced to stick to the same zones over and over, or you are just forced to solo. Not everyone wants to play a shaman or necro.

If YOU are unhappy and reliving your past, don't project that sh*t onto others

It's not about finding missing happiness. For me personally anyway. It is about starting in a fresh world and meeting the population of the server organically in the same state of nakedness as it was 25 years ago.

It is about the journey. People seem to forget the reason they probably picked up Everquest for the first time. Say what you want. The possibility of getting a few more years of memorable experiences in a living Norrath is very appealing to me. Doing a curated meta when the timeline is over just doesnt appeal to me though, quite the opposite.

I just wonder why all the silence about it? There is always a reason for being silent on a topic many are interested to know about, and seeing the most recent patches leading up to end of Green's timeline(a long time ago now), makes me believe a new server is in the pipe, but may never happen depending on interest of the creators. That is fair. Why that can't be honestly articulated is unclear.

Either way: Ill be here when a new one launches, unless a game releases that could carry the torch another 25 years first. Not holding my breath for either lol.
