Default EQ Basic v1.1 - An EQ Graphics Overhaul Project

Intro

Hello Norrath!

First off, I love Everquest just like everyone still playing. I have invited many of my friends who would not give it a shot because of how it looked. I wanted to change that and I also wanted to breathe some fresh life into a game near and dear to me. EQ Basic is a FULL graphics overhaul of Everquest, specifically for P99 Green/Blue (Classic, Kunark, Velious). This includes all zones, objects, character models, equipment(Including epics), mobs and spell effects!

Installation

Easy URL: https://tinyurl.com/EQ-Basic

Please make a copy of your EQ directory before overwriting any files. After making a copy, simply extract the .7z into your copied EQ directory. You will also need to create a new shortcut pointing to your newly copied directory. After that, login as usual and enjoy the new experience! If the spell effects are too much I would also suggest turning these down to 75% from 100% opacity as that's what I prefer.

Patches

The main download has all these fixes in them, you'll only need the patches if they were released after you installed the overhaul.

Felwithe Fix

EverFrost Fix

Plane of Air fix

Qeynos-Solro Fix

Froglocks Fix

After Thoughts

I want to give a big thanks to <Good Guys> on P99 Green for all the help and support. Specifically Deathtoll, Mubbins, Frostpaw, Difficult, Zaejii, Khave, Naexus, Frankenberries, Leveluplarry and anyone else who helped. I would love if you could share any screen shots of your favorite locations or adventures you go on with the graphics overhaul. Go to your home towns or favorite dungeons and share your experiences! There is still work to be done and if you find any bugs/issues please report them! I hope you guys get as much enjoyment out of this little project as I had making it.

I think it would be good if you posted examples of the overhaul. Might entice more people to use it

Is this using some form of AI upscaling?

There's around 13 screen shots, no?

Yessir, same as what's been provided on other Upscales, but then changes are made for a more differed look.

Glimmer drake looks great, I mostly like the overall look. I tend to like these AI upscales more than when people try to re-draw the graphics at higher res because it always ends up being a hodepodge of different visual styles that aren't unified the way an AI upscale is, even though you can add a lot more detail doing it by hand.

Protip: A good way to trick your brain into thinking normal EQ looks good is to spend a couple hours playing n64 games first. Mario 64 looks soooo bad compared to EQ. Early polygonal games were so enamored with the fact it was finally arbitrary 3d it just didn't matter how janky or blurry or visually confusing everything is. SNES games look much better than early N64 games in retrospect.
