Or maybe you're posting on a forum where people have played the game before and know the answers and you want to argue... It's god damned trolling. I found the issue. The EQEMU code gives +3 Weapon damage, but it looks like the intent was for mobs only.

The formula is now:

RoundDecimal(Weapon Damage * ((Backstab Skill * 0.02) + 2)) * 2 * 2.85 = Max Backstab Damage.

15 * ((225 * 0.02) + 2) = 97 rounded down. 97 weapon damage * 2 * 2.85 percentage multiplier cap = 552.9 damage at best. That is 553 rounded up.

It was simply an interesting coincidence that the 696 backstab I happened to look at lines up with the +3 damage perfectly when including damage bonus, and that 696 backstab happened to miss the emote message.

Thanks for the expert help! Now I know how backstab works, and this is another data point showing the EQEMU matches the P99 code.

I'll add it to my DPS calculator, so backstabs can be calculated. Now it will be easy for Rogues to compare weapons.

Having conversations about game mechanics is not trolling. Experts on these forums have been wrong before. I am not saying you are wrong here, but it's good to make sure the information is correct.

I've had my fair share of fruitless arguments with DSM but he went "are these the facts, these are my numbers and if all that is true then how do we explain this?". No need to call him names.

The argument "everybody knows this" on here is basically the lowest proof value on the totem pole since in the last year only we've seen popular knowledge being wrong a couple of times on critical mechanics so can't blame him for asking why.

He's giving backstab weapon swapping advice to end game rogues in another thread when he doesn't know the absolute basics of the class. That doesn't stop him. There's multiple people telling him the damage cap and how it works. That doesn't stop him. Fuck willful ignorance. It's ok to not know something, but fuck people who argue with the people who do know. And furthermore which name did I call him? I don't think I've name called anyone. I understand how weapon DPS works quite well. I showed DPS calculations for different weapon sets without backatab so the OP of that thread could see the differences and make an informed decision.

I don't think anybody in that thread disagreed with the idea that more weapon damage = more backstab DPS either. That is what I said.

So no, I did not provide bad Rogue advice in that thread.

I am just making sure I get the details of backstab DPS correct, so I can add it to my calculator.

That's awesome! Minus the lack of interest part of course. It's fun to build a DPS calculator. Even if people don't use it, it helps me understand the game better. It also shows me that the P99 code and the EQEMU code is very similar. So far a lot of the code is basically the same, P99 is simply not using future expansion code like AA's.

You can never have a real conversation with DSM. Their autism is too high. They are unable to discuss or debate without snide comments degrading you, and they can never make an argument in good faith.

Don't be sorry. We've been trying to encourage DSM to seek professional help for their issues, but the suggestion has not been received very well. Since we can't get them to stop posting, the only solution is to put their account on ignore and resist the temptation to click show post when you see them spamming every single thread with their nonsense. DSM loves to spread bullshit into every single post they make, and there's no escaping it, just ignoring it.

Oh, and DSM feels the need to defend themselves in ever thread, so I assume it won't take them long to reply to this post because I'm sure they're already obsessively refreshing the forums.
