Agree on many points. A harsher sentence typically is not going to on its own create deterrence because criminals IMO (as someone that watches a lot of tru crime) are typically very stupid people who tend to assume they won’t get caught, no matter how harsh the sentence

Of course we all hope for rehabilitation, but the rates of rehabilitation for sex offenders and pedo’s are some of the record lowest of any disorder, from I’ve heard. Of course the argument can be made that the rates are so low because of the methods and societies perception of the perpetrator. But it’s a chicken or the egg argument, is the perception based on the fact a lot of lay people do realize the rates of rehabilitation for this disorder are low, and have thus become disenfranchised with the idea of continuing to spend resources trying

It turns out, child predators already have plenty of incentive not to rape children; that's not the problem. It's like when the penalty for murder is 40 years in prison, and politicians change it to 50: it doesn't lower the murder rate, because no one thinks "well if it's only 40 years I'm totally going to kill this guy, but if it's 50 fuck that".

Same issue with sex offenders: it's not that there isn't enough deterrence, it's that they have (sick) urges which cause them to harm others despite the consequences. More threats don't help ... but giving those people an outlet for their urges, which doesn't harm anyone else, does.

I'd be more worried for the precedent it sets on a wider scale. Cash is still king for local businesses.

The best way to handle any problem is not to look at evidence and use reason ... it's to go with whatever your first instinct is, and stick to that "solution" no matter how poorly it works.

Exactly. It's going to be far more than just the banned games that are impacted; any game that doesn't want to be kicked off Steam is going to avoid adult elements as a result of this.
