Our per-zone fishing implementation currently has no functionality for 'rule-basing' eras. I'll work on getting this added.

Itemizing fish per zone (and rules) would probably be a good crowd source/research project due to the limited scope.

If there are any changes needed, for example an item wasn't able to be fished until X date, it can be reported like:

butcher Saltwater Seaweed Sep2000.

This one caught my eye because I believe that is used in dyes, and possibly needs a rule attached.

The fishing system itself was in bad shape, and I made many other changes while I was working on this. Those will be reported in other threads.

I was working through some merchant items, so I just made a new sheet:

As far as I can tell, there were 3 main eras of fish expansion: Apr2000, Sept2000, and Mar2001 (+PoM). Zone-specific fish were first released with Kunark. Sept2000 saw the addition of the tackle box, lure and fish egg recipes, and a few fish (salmon/mackerel) used in those fish egg recipes. Then in Mar2001, we see unique fish being added to a number of Old World and Velious zones.

From Allakhazam's early fishing page:
May2000 - https://web.archive.org/web/20000511...ls/Fishing.htm
Quote:
As far as I can tell, you can catch one of four things: a generic fish (worth about 2 silver pieces), a fish scale (worth about 4 copper pieces), a rusty dagger (worth about 1 ½ silver pieces) or a tattered shoe (worth about 1 silver piece).

In Kunark, you can also catch specialized items, that seem to be zone specific.
...
Kunark Fishing Catches:

Cabilis - Fetid Bass (sized from tiny fetid bass to humongous fetid bass)
City of Mist - Ikfish
Firiona Vie - Fetid Bass (sized from tiny fetid bass to humongous fetid bass), sewer catfish
Karnor's Castle - Wulf Fish
Lake of Ill Omen - Illweed reed, Wet Clay
Overthere - Danak Grouper
Ocean of Tears - Saltwater Seaweed.
Swamp of no Hope - Krup Guppy
Timorous Deep - Timorous Tuna
Warslik's Woods - Evergreen Salmon

Some of the Kunark dungeon fish were added to EQTraders over time.
Nov2000 - https://web.archive.org/web/20001119...n/fishing.html
Mar2001 - https://web.archive.org/web/20010306...shing_zone.htm

(You can browse later captures using the Mar2001 link)

I suspect they were actually released with the launch of Kunark though. We see more or less what we would expect to see in terms of discovery: fish found at entry points to the continent (Timorous Deep, Overthere, and Firiona Vie), Iksar starting areas (Cabilis, SoNH, Warslik's), and the first 50+ leveling dungeons (CoM and Karnor's). Nurga shows up next. That Sebilis and Chardok appear last isn't too surprising.

Mar2001

The primary source I found for the March2001 additions was a thread on the EQTraders board. Three pages captured:
- https://web.archive.org/web/20020116...art=21&stop=40
- https://web.archive.org/web/20020116...art=61&stop=64

A helpful check that these were in fact new (for some of Velious zones at least) comes from another thread. CodFest2001, three pages captured:
- https://web.archive.org/web/20010422...art=21&stop=40
- https://web.archive.org/web/20010422...art=41&stop=47

Tradeskillers were looking for Cobalt Cod to make the oil needed for Arctic Wyvern armor, so they fished all over Velious and reported their findings. No cod or any other unique fish was caught (late Feb2001 and again in early Mar2001).

Misc

This thread documented zones without any unique fish.

The adjective of the fetid bass should be lower case. It was changed to upper case in 2003. Lucy documents the change:

- large Fetid Bass (18 lb) - https://lucy.allakhazam.com/itemhistory.html?id=14997
- large Fetid Bass (19 lb) - https://lucy.allakhazam.com/itemhistory.html?id=14999
- large Fetid Bass (20 lb) - https://lucy.allakhazam.com/itemhistory.html?id=14917
- large Fetid Bass (21 lb) - https://lucy.allakhazam.com/itemhistory.html?id=14918
- giant Fetid Bass - https://lucy.allakhazam.com/itemhistory.html?id=14919
- gigantic Fetid Bass - https://lucy.allakhazam.com/itemhistory.html?id=14939
- humongous Fetid Bass - https://lucy.allakhazam.com/itemhistory.html?id=14940

The tiny Fetid Bass appears to be lowercase already in the P99 database.

Yes, they are the exact names. "large Fetid Bass" really is capitalized like that.

The table in the OP of the thread lists the other fetid bass adjectives in lowercase as well.

What about the other Fetid Bass?

2lb Fetid Bass
3lb Fetid Bass
4lb Fetid Bass
5lb Fetid Bass
6lb Fetid Bass
7lb Fetid Bass
8lb Fetid Bass
9lb Fetid Bass
10lb Fetid Bass
11lb Fetid Bass
12lb Fetid Bass
13lb Fetid Bass
14lb Fetid Bass
15lb Fetid Bass
16lb Fetid Bass
17lb Fetid Bass

Also, I saw in the research comments about requiring a specific skill to catch certain items (i.e. >= 100).

If these are documented anywhere, would be useful. We use a placeholder value, but have the ability to differentiate.

On that note, we also have the ability to provide a 'chance' per item, which is calculated when deciding the weight chance to produce the item vs the total of the 'pool'. So, if something was known to be exceptionally rare to catch, we can do that.

This in-era list matches the casing of the names in the June 2002 table but includes an "a" in the name.

FV Fishing Trip (Fetid Bass Findings)

I burnt through 7 stacks of bait in FV yesterday at skill 168-175, and thought I'd post what I found about the fish there.

It looks like there's one fetid bass there for every weight from 0.1-2.5, plus the rare Fresh Fish and that No Drop fish (Sewer Catfish?). The tiny, large and giant Fetid Bass were much less common for me than the others. About 15% of my catch were feast-classed fish.

Here's how they're named and how sustaining they are:

wt 0.1 = a tiny Fetid Bass, snack
wt 0.2 = a 2lb Fetid Bass, meal
wt 0.3 = a 3lb Fetid Bass, meal
wt 0.4 = a 4lb Fetid Bass, meal
wt 0.5 = a 5lb Fetid Bass, hearty meal
wt 0.6 = a 6lb Fetid Bass, hearty meal
wt 0.7 = a 7lb Fetid Bass, hearty meal
wt 0.8 = a 8lb Fetid Bass, hearty meal
wt 0.9 = a 9lb Fetid Bass, hearty meal
wt 1.0 = a 10lb Fetid Bass, banquet
wt 1.1 = a 11lb Fetid Bass, banquet
wt 1.2 = a 12lb Fetid Bass, banquet
wt 1.3 = a 13lb Fetid Bass, banquet
wt 1.4 = a 14lb Fetid Bass, banquet
wt 1.5 = a 15lb Fetid Bass, feast
wt 1.6 = a 16lb Fetid Bass, feast
wt 1.7 = a 17lb Fetid Bass, feast
wt 1.8 = a large Fetid Bass, hearty meal
wt 1.9 = a large Fetid Bass, hearty meal
wt 2.0 = a large Fetid Bass, meal
wt 2.1 = a large Fetid Bass, meal
wt 2.2 = a giant Fetid Bass, meal
wt 2.3 I didn't catch
wt 2.4 I didn't catch
wt 2.5 = a humongous Fetid Bass, hearty meal

This appears to be a setup guide for an incomplete EQ emulator using data from ShowEQ. Its last update is 7/30/2001, though the data doesn't appear to include Velious. In most cases, this would be a less than useful source, however, it does contain the following in its item database:
Code:
...
14917 - a large Fetid Bass
14918 - a large Fetid Bass
14918 - a giant Fetid Bass
...
14940 - a humongous Fetid Bass
...
14967 - a tiny Fetid Bass
...
14981 - a small Fetid Bass
14982 - a small Fetid Bass
14983 - a small Fetid Bass
14984 - a small Fetid Bass
14985 - a small Fetid Bass
14986 - a small Fetid Bass
14987 - a 8lb Fetid Bass
14988 - a 9lb Fetid Bass
14989 - Fetid Bass
14990 - Fetid Bass
14991 - Fetid Bass
14992 - a 13lb Fetid Bass
14993 - Fetid Bass
14994 - Fetid Bass
14995 - Fetid Bass
14996 - Fetid Bass
14997 - a large Fetid Bass
...
14999 - a large Fetid Bass
...
Perhaps unsurprisingly, not all the bass are accounted for, but the naming scheme is consistent with the Velious-era post above.

It seems there may have actually been "a small Fetid Bass" as well.

Subject: RE: What can you get fishing?

You get many interesting types of fish from the waters in Kunark. You get many different weights of their fetid bass, while pretty cool can be quite a pain cause they dont' stack unless they are the same weight. Also Sewer Catfish, Timorous Tuna, small fetid bass, and the usual fresh fish, daggers, and sandals happy.gif I hear you can catch different stuff in OOT too.

Using Lures, i was catching Fetid Bass that actually showed the weight,
ranging from '2 lb Fetid Bass' to '17 lb Fetid Bass'. When i used regular old
bait or foraged grubs i got a less descriptive Fetid Bass like 'a small Fetid Bass'
or 'a large Fetid Bass'. I wonder if the Lures give you a different fish or if this
was just coincidence.
These are the only two comments I could find that reference it though, and there would still be a question of how much it weighed.

-----

Also, I found a live capture of page 3 of the "New Fish Found" thread on a different ezboard subdomain. It confirms a couple more fish added (Grotto Bluegill, Hatch Dace, Red Roughy).
