Nah, what's needed is dynamic content. Constantly change where items drop and how NPC's spawn. It doesn't require constant work either, just need to have an algorithm that automatically shifts everything around. Now the game is a permanent adventure, an Everquest, where nobody knows exactly what will happen and it becomes necessary to hunt throughout every nook and cranny of every zone to see what might be there at any given time.

The only game I can recall playing that actually did this was Asheron's Call. I think it was every month they would change the "migration" patterns of the mobs and old safe areas became dangerous and so forth. Their loot was also pretty much all random anyway. Only a very select items were actual named items. That said, the community in that game was pretty ass since it was mostly solo people exploring the expanse alone. It's why I always bounced back and forth between AC and EQ.
