Swarm Kiting Rats in PoM - impossible/possible?

If you on average spend 2 minutes pr rat kill (you may say that's a smidge high but that also has to take into account charm breaks and running + setting up for next rat pet etc.) then there would have to be fewer than 35 rats in total in the entire maze for you to run out before respawns. That's also assuming you have zero down time ever - which is completely unrealistic. Any added downtime means fewer than 35 rats if you actually are clearing the entire rat maze alone.

I have never actually counted (and I don't expect I can find the drive to do so) and I am not sure if 35 is a high or low number with regards to total number of rats. It doesn't seem way off but I really don't know.

It might be that I was doing it wrong on my chanter. My method was to charm a pet, send it in, use low-level slow on the target rat and/ epic to haste my pet to manage the hp of both so that they were getting low at more or less the same rate. Then when they were both low I would click goblin ring to break charm and use Dementia and/or Anarchy (to minimize mana used) to nuke both down, then repeat that.

I charm one of the invis men, give him torch and haste, use shiftless on the rats and no other spells takes 45 seconds to a minute to kill each rat. Heal pet with memblur every 5 or 6 rats... Kill the about 45 rats and every gnome I see. I'm probably missing a couple rats that I don't see in some corner, but it feels like all of them

Then I afk for 10 minutes for raspawn

I find that if you are killing twice as fast or a lot easier without trying to get full xp, it's better overall than messing with it.

You also don't have to try to get your pet to die at the same time anyway... Just back your pet off, memblur, nuke. If you do more damage than the pet after the nuke you get full xp and don't have to one shot it. Then on the next mob, you just break and charm the new guy buff him, and kill your old pet. New one should last a couple mobs and repeat. This gives you full xp on every mob with much less effort than your strategy and fixes the problem of all the rats being different levels

There are some rats that are tucked into random corners that you might have left up. I was duoing with a shaman as a tricked out monk, killing rats very fast - and we never ran out. We'd go for like 90 minutes straight, taking under a minute per kill.

Nevertheless, your strat is solid, and those extra few rats aren't worth turning 4 corners to find them lol

That's a cool strat. Unsure which is more effective as each kill yields half the amount of exp. Would be fun to experiment and look at like exp gained pr hour or something like that.

I can say with utter certainty that you can swarm the PoM rat maze. I just leveled a Warrior down in the maze from 54-60 and I saw two Bards do it consistently. Thankfully, when I was down there they asked how many rats I wanted/which part of the maze I was doing and they left that part alone. So please be kind to others in the maze if you choose to do so.
