One time I played everquest too much and it ruined my academic prospects. How much money might I have made if not for this infernal distraction? Brad only knows.

Funny enough I pursued a finance career and became a multi millionaire due the skills I learned while tunnel questing back in '99-'01

lol my memories are way diff. i didnt know what eq was. had a group of like 12 friends who all played starcraft and tribes together. i was closest with one friend and he wasnt at school for literally a week.

since we were bff it was common for me to spend the night at his house. go over expecting to play starcraft like we always do. but instead hes killing tadpoles in a game called everquest. turns out he had laid out of school all week to do this. game was so lame.

at first i was like okay neat. but after you kill like 30 tadpoles in a row, like we get it bro, you can kill a tad pole? lame af. dude ends up passing out hella early because he hadnt slept in days (keep in mind we're like 14).

so i move over from my laptop to his desktop and im like let me try this. go to the char creation screen. am blown away by all the different races. none of this is mainstream back then btw. i had never heard of a dark elf or a troll. i had no clue what the hell a shaman or druid was. i ended up making a monk expecting it to be some catholic dude who went around praying all the time.

long story short i got hooked badly. within a year almost a dozen kids from my neighborhood were also hooked. some shared accounts, some literally got part time jobs to buy a pc to be able to play this game. always felt more like an irl game more than an internet game at first.

but then i eventually made close friends. my longest lasting friendship was a girl i met on everquest ngl. a few years ago she went completely MIA. I didn't notice at first because it wasnt uncommon for us to get mad and stop talking to each other for a couple of months here and there.

could just tell something was wrong. had no way to figure out what was going on. then i remembered her brothers name and her last name, and looked him up on facebook and saw all the obituary stuff. apparently she took her life. to this day idk how she died and would never ask her family.

that being said, its always been interesting to me that dalnir is this weird obscure zone no one uses? for me dalnir was SUPER popping because it was a hot zone and I remember her and me doing a lot of dalnir and talking about how it felt like we're in a cardboard box maze with hamster chips all over the place. didnt realize most eq players dont remember the zone as fondly or view it as meta because it was 100% meta for us at that time. golden memories.

crazy at the time because i didnt realize this would be such a narrow moment lost in time.

also by the time I discovered unrest it was obsolete as far as my server was concerned. still a great spot to go to and solo death beetles, but once you hit mid teens it was all about lake of ill omen. dont remember this thing where everyone levels in UR .... think thats a very modern thing and if you actually wanted to get a group you would prob be in LOIO back in 2000

remember all the groups at the giant fort in FM after that lol

just a completely diff game in most regards
compared to what we have now

which isnt the devs fault or anything like that, its just super diff for a variety of reasons
classic wow obviously doesnt feel like vanilla wow to me AT ALL

I recall Burning Woods being the spot for druids kiting giants around the area. Never could find any when my groups went there because they were all snared and dotted behind the druids.

Did I ask you for first and last name, phone number, address, email, or ANYTHING personally identifiable to you? No I did not. Apparently, what you think is doxxing is not doxxing.

Asking, "Tell me about the time Burproar absolutely carried your raid 15 years ago so I can preserve the legend for others to enjoy," isn't even in the neighborhood of doxxing. Asking the name of your character and the server you're on so you can be credited for that story has literally no impact toward anybody identifying you.

Lastly, pardon me for not caring about forums 99.99% of the time because my core social life isn't tied to this one small corner of the internet. I'm just a guy, living a normal life, and I thought I'd start a project that brings joy to others. Apparently a tiny sliver of positivity was too much to ask, so I'd be happy to delete this thread altogether if you walk me through the process, because I haven't been able to find any button for it. Otherwise, enjoy your cynicism.
Just ignore RecondoJoe's ban evasion account. He's not the most intelligent individual on the planet as you can see.
