I've got it kind of working using Sikarugir on an M1 mac using Tahoe 26.3.1
I also got it working using Crossover, using all the old steps to install titanium, patching it for P99, etc, but the performance was pretty bad and I don't want to pay for crossover. For Sikarugir, I followed the steps exactly to first get Steam running using this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZgaBTcHEwc . Then, I copied the everquest/Project 1999 folder I was using from crossover into the sikuragir wrapper, selected eggame.exe, added the patchme outside of the quotes, and it worked! Issues I'm still having are 1) the game often crashes once I close the game and try to re-open. I've had luck restarting my computer to get the game back up but it's not a sure thing. and 2) horribly slow loading times

Best I have found so far to play on a Mac is to use Parallels.

I will have to test that out to see if it works better than what I am doing currently.

From an disc I restored an old .zip snapshot I had of my P99 folder as it was from December 2022, when I last played. In CrossOver 26.1.0, it initially ran just fine in the loading/login screens. But when trying to log in to a character for the first time, got an error message suggesting the newest patches weren't installed, which makes sense...
But then I installed the latest P99 patch from the website, and now CrossOver doesn't run this at all, the game immediately crashes with winedbg giving a "unable to attach process" error, but I don't think that's the main error happening. CrossOver's verbose log is hard to decipher to determine when exactly the crash happens; it MIGHT be when it's trying to find mscoree.dll, or DSETUP.dll. So, something introduced between December 2022's version of P99, and the current patch, breaks CrossOver functionality. I'll give Parallels a try some later time.

Update: if I set Graphics to D3DMetal and turn on MSync, I still get the error -- BUT it sometimes works if I continously keep re-clicking the launcher icon. Seems to be about a 10% chance of getting past that startup crash (suggesting a possible race condition?).
Logged in once to a character, though... and there's two weird things: 1) Much of the world is not drawn. Just character models and trees. The land is completely invisible. 2) It's very, very slow. This might be due to DirectMusic missing, which EQ uses. It's a Wine issue seen in other games from that era which use DirectMusic, where everything is sluggish if that system component is missing from the Wine prefix. After installing DirectMusic into the bottle... well, now the game crashes as soon as I attempt to proceed from the server selection screen. So it no longer makes it to the character selection screen anymore.

I'm using MacOS Sequioa + Parallels 20 with Windows 11 and have largely had success running this over the last few months. Occasionally I would get the 'slow-mo' launches described in previous posts, but usually a restart of the VM would resolve.
Yesterday they (slow-mo sessions) started occurring much much more frequently and I now have to restart between client launches and even that sometimes does not work. Not sure what else to try- spent a long time with Chat GPT tuning resources and looking at settings but no dice: seems like there's enough system resources to go around. Anybody having/had a similar experience?
