Yea, grasping roots is like 30 second duration. Enough time to root, snare, glamour of Tunare, and charm. It helps if you are using a goblin earring or some instant click item to reset your spell gems between casts. Once charmed you can’t stack debuffs.

I haven’t done bear pits but generally long roots on charm pets is annoying unless you are using charm mainly to deplete their hitpoints (in place) to finish off with dots. In which case having two (or more) npc’s locked down is handy for cycling charm to to the next highest hp npc to charm.

Egress resets aggro and takes you to a “safe spot” within the zone. It’s a couple seconds faster casting than Ring of Commons. When we you zone with roughly <25% health (I can’t recall the specific amount) it strips your buffs. Good for saving from a dot death but annoying otherwise.

Whoa! I didn't know grasping would overwrite the higher level roots.. Good to know!

In the pits, I usually pull my charm pet with Ensnare, and when charm breaks I cast Panic Animal (10 mana, 2s cast) and then recharm during fear. But using the root memmed on my bar, and then overwriting with Grasping from the neck would be less hairy [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
good call, except get epic and use that always for the snare/dps.. no need for ensnare down there.

So I tried casting grasping roots on my charmed pet and it didn't work (they were "protected"). I'm guessing you're supposed to grasping before charming. I've been trying cancel magic (a little unreliable but it usually works) until I get that warden necklace, still working on it and it could definitely come in handy.

Finally getting the hang of it. This zone isn't too bad but man when it goes bad it goes bad. Had to port out today and egressed into an ice goblin that was trying (but failing) to hit me heh. I suppose that's why people use ring of commons.

Speaking of, egress resets aggro right? I noticed it wiped out all my buffs once when I was low hp (had potg and clarity) - didn't know that was a mechanic.
Yeah, you can't cast aggressive spells like root on a pet, you gotta override the root with grasping before charming it.

If you zone with less HP than you get in total from all your gear, all your buffs get wiped out.

Different strokes for different folks [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Usually I find that I can sit far enough away that I can charm a snared mob without having to root them first, especially once you have Call of Karana. I mostly use the root override trick in Kedge Keep where you pretty much have to do it that way.
Yeah I think it is indeed a matter of preference. You can always med waiting for it to wear off but I've dispelled them before to reposition faster (dispel on enemy mob then reroot over pet). If there's no threat or time constraint it doesn't matter if you med during or after fight but if you're trying to beat repops or fighting something that breaks root often I'd rather just be done with it sooner than later.

Places like chardok named you're often sandwiched between spawns so you really don't have the space to kite a broken pet either. But if you're killing wolves in eastern karana it isn't an issue.
