My point about class variability creating distinct gameplay stands. The reality is that probably over 95% of the combinations in EQL will play pretty much the same regardless of which three classes you pick: you will face tank mobs, meleeing and casting nukes or DoTs, and cast heals/slow as necessary. For whatever reason a lot of people don't seem to understand this fact or are in denial about it. But give it a few months after release and you'll be hearing it from a lot of people who walk away from the game. Because unlike traditional EQ, you can't level alts that provide totally different gameplay loops. In EQL, every effective combination will ultimately feel very similar, and they all even share the same gear. So after leveling a few combos, and discovering that they are basically just engaging in the exact same gameplay loop they already played before, I think many people will have had their fill and move on.

Subscription. Box price. Cash shop. That's a F2P+Paid hybrid for monetization and it's fucking gross and would not play even if it was good. This is what sank Archeage, which by all accounts was an incredibly fun game. The monetization was insufferable. This is what bleeds players and keeps people like myself from being interested in the first place.
I am, however, vaguely curious how the EQL experience holds up against THJ.

I keep thinking EQL though may lead to other interesting EQ servers in the future. I am hoping for a Wizardry type of EQ experience.
Probably would be hard to do but it would be amazing if they turned EQ classic in a turn based party game, standalone single player RPG. All the cool party dynamics you have now but you are controlling the whole party. Develop some quest story line that can take you around the map. I would buy it! Or maybe more variations of EQ classic, I would love to play an authenticate classic experience, only with instancing in dungeons.

I find the negativity/criticism interesting. I played EQ on launch many Earth rotations around the Sun ago.
I can understand some of you want "old school", but I just can't fathom why some would want to grind all day for "one bub" XP again. We are (or most of us) want some instant gratification and as adults, just don't have the time to dedicate to the grind. Sure, there are always going to be "no lifers" that need to "touch grass", but who cares. Let them have their fun. At the end of the day, this is going to be a solo game for the most part. I think it's cool the legacy of EQ is still around, even in this fashion. The game is also $20 with a $10 sub. Some of you are treating it like it's a triple A price. I can guarantee most people will get their $30 out of it by the time they quit. I would even say I've already gotten my money out of it. The only real negative I can see is the roadmap, Kunark being set for "winter", I'm sure Daybreak will get a good amount of money by putting the carrot in front of us. But, I guess that's predicated there are still things for people to do by then. I haven't seen any microtransaction announcements yet, beside some mount, but you can be sure that will happen. Let's see how it plays out. I'm having fun right now.
