The way I learned what need before greed means is that need rolls apply for who is online and logged in to a specific character. You can't roll for need on an alt as a rule. If the group agrees on exceptions that's a special case but in my view no one needed the Druid spell in OP and it should have properly gone to a greed roll for everyone present. Shit happens

What other meaning could "need" have? Otherwise I could just roll a level 1 shaman and now I 'need' all those expensive spells too.

What we always did, was if everyone in the group was in the same guild, we did need before greed, if no one needed we rolled, However if anyone was in the group that was not in the guild with us, everything was rolled on.
