Hah! This reminds me of how I handle telemarketers etc. When they call and start in on their speech, I ask them to hold on for a moment. I put the phone down and resume playing EQ, watching TV, whatever. Eventually they catch on and hang up but hey, I got to waste their time.

Not having to call (automated or manually) the next person, listen and prepare to speak, etc.

Can mute mic and potentially talk to someone nearby.

Can potentially (if not closely monitored) bust out the smartphone.

Draw on paper, etc.

He's been trying to do it since last november. He's not ruining anything since he never manages to impact the server. He has never successfully spent a single gold from it. He actually petitioned asking for help last time I set all of his stats to 1 and removed all of his language abilities. I told him he must have borked it while cheating.
