When the vz/tz source code got released (during 2.0, before 2.5/3.0), the diffs were immediately added to stock eqemu code. Servers don't last 4+ years if they are of inferior quality, it's practically unheard of in Emu history outside of maybe PEQ and KMRA (aka both blue as fuck who cares).
Null is great. That's pretty much the only correct part of your post. VZTZ was a poorly coded shithole that in no way compares to either of the p99 servers. Here's a post with a list of glaring problems with previous pvp servers (including VZTZ) that were fixed on blue99:

Also, you can't say it lasted long when it had a ridiculously low population even with boxing allowed.
